Anthology 2 is a compilation album by The Beatles released in March 1996 by Apple Records as part of The Beatles Anthology series. The album includes rarities, live, and alternative tracks from the sessions for Help! through the sessions for Magical Mystery Tour and early 1968 sessions before the band travelled to India. The album featured the second new Beatle-track, "Real Love", a re-worked song originally by John Lennon. Anthology 2 sold well, as did its predecessor Anthology 1. In the United States it debuted at #1, selling 442,000 copies the first week. The following week, the album fell to #2, selling 201,000 copies, being replaced by Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill. The album managed to spend two more weeks on the Top 10 (at #4 and then #8), remaining for 22 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200 and then re-entering the charts twice, marking a #96 reach during the Christmas season of 1996. In all, the album spent 37 weeks on the charts (8 more than Anthology 1) and sold 1,707,000 copies (confirmed by RIAA), being certified 2× Platinum. In the UK, the success was similar. Anthology 1 debuted at #2 album when released in 1995, but its successor managed to reach #1, where it remained for one week. The album spent a total of 13 weeks on the UK Album Chart.

    “I agree with the fact that a physical CD would also be nice to own. After all, it would be cheaper. Although, I am excited to see more recognition for the Anthology collection. I own all three albums, never opened, in mint condition with the original receipts. I think it is a wonderful piece of work and I personally love the unfinished songs that were finished off By Paul, George, and Ringo. In co clusion, as much as I love the anthology and iTunes, I feel that my wants and needs regarding Beatles music are being insulted. But I still LOVE THE BEATLES!!!!!!!!!”
