The Royal Command Performance

On the 4th November 1963 The Prince of Wales Theatre in London was filled with a very difference audience than they had been used to - these were high society attendees for the Royal Command Performance (or Royal Variety Show as was alter called). The Queen Mother and Princess Margaret were amongst them.

John's made his famous request to the crowd: "For our last number I'd like to ask your help - will the people in the cheaper seats clap your hands? And the rest of you, if you'll just rattle your jewellery"

    I can remember it as if it was yesterday - I was only small, and watched them on my Dad's knee. I thought they were something special at the time, and always remember my Dad saying - 'Just another flash in the pan, I'll give them six months!!!'
