Amazing album. Very polished from a group that was breaking up. It was the first Beatles LP that I had heard..I was 12 when it came out and grew up on them.

My Comments

  • In 1969 or thereabouts George took a "sabbatical" and was having fun hanging with The Band and Delaney & Bonnie being a backing musician. He referred to returning to the Beatles as "going back to the winter of discontent". There is no one definitive answer for why they broke up but I like Paul's reasoning in the "Anthology" where he says it was like old army buddies growing up and apart..that old gang just breaking up and moving on and it's true. John had a new distraction...Yoko who wasn't content to sit at the back with the other Beatle wives...in her mind (right or wrong) her place was at John's side 24/7; George was becoming more prolific as a songwriter and wasn't content with just 2 cuts per LP plus his interest in Eastern philosophies was having a profound impact on his personal life; Ringo just went with the flow. The stuff with Apple and management and whether to play live again etc. were other issues that just gave them reasons to go their own way.

The last photo session, Tittenhurst Park, 1969. on 22nd Aug 10.

  • Ok I get that the cover format and expanded booklets will be in the same style as the 2009 Stereo Remasters but really these were already remastered in 1993! Will "Red" be issued on 1 CD instead of 2? It would fit on 1 as it runs to just under 60 minutes. Will they be issued as a combined boxed set?
BTW I wouldn't count on a Capitol Albums #3 as most of that volume would be "redundant" since they were issued in 2009 with the Remasters - Revolver, Pepper & MMT - that leaves "Yesterday... & Today"
I guess the argument would be that the Mono's aren't generally available except in the Mono Box.

Red and Blue Albums Remastered on 22nd Aug 10.
